I am a customer and employee of FPUA. As I sat working at my desk, my company cell phone rang. I answered and the voice on the other end stated that it was my local utility company wanting to send me a rebate check and give me a 30% discount on future bills. All I had to do was press 2 on my phone to request my rebate check. Although I knew that this is a scam, pressing 2 led me to someone requesting personal, banking and account information so that they could process and send the check. This is a SCAM!
Please do not EVER give personal information over the phone! Another popular scam going around is asking that you pay a bill with a prepaid debit card, usually with a short deadline. Do not succumb to these scams. If you have any questions about your FPUA bill, please hang up and call the official FPUA Customer Service number (772) 466-1600. Never dial any other number that is given to you.
Protect yourself and your loved ones from these unscrupulous and unsolicited calls! For additional information on scams and how to protect yourself, visit the Federal Trade Commission Consumer information page found online at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/scam-alerts.
